Nurmi, Bernhard, Jankowiak, Wylie and Wollaber visit Victory Lane for the first race of June. It was a hot day, and a beautiful night at Lancaster Raceway Park for race #5 of the season. While Sportsman had the night off, Late Models, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Cup Lites and TQ Midgets all hit the track. Some drivers are getting used to going to victory lane while others and just trying to get there. The first feature of the evening was that of the TQ Midgets. AJ Hessler started out front with many of the Team Christiano cars behind him. Hessler would go on and lead the first few laps, but TQ Veteran, Dave Wollaber, got around him. This put Wollaber in the lead, and nobody could touch him. Wollaber went on to win his 2nd Midget feature of the year. Hessler, Bandelian, Schulz, and Collard rounded out the top 5. The touring Cup Lites made their first Lancaster appearance of the year. Jason Keen started on the pole, with 12 cars behind him. While Keen slowly fell through the field, Scott Wylie took the first position. The #13 of Darin Spalti was second and #20 was third. The only caution of the race came on lap 19, when the #99 got loose coming out of 4 and hit the outside wall. Scott Wylie went on to win the race. Spalti, Burd, Whittaker, and Bittner rounded out the top 5. The Street Stocks were up next. Steve Cochran started on the pole, with 22 cars behind him. Cochran fell through the field, putting Andy Jankowiak out in the lead after starting forth. Gary Light sat second and Scott Mutka third. Jankowiak had a ridiculous lead from the second and third place cars. All of that changed when the caution flag flew on lap 16 when Bob Hanel Sr's tire came off on the backstretch. Jankowiak held the lead for the rest of the race. Mutka, Agen Sr, Gallagher and Madill rounded out the top 5. Once again, the Super Stock car counts are low, but the features are great every week. 6 cars started the race, and George Roesch pulled off on lap 2. Dave Johnson and Wayne Bernhard ran side by side for many laps. The caution flag flew on lap 7 when Jay Canonico spun in turn 4. Wayne Bernhard got the lead and went on to win his 4th feature this season. The Late Models were the final feature of the night. 13 cars started the race with Cory Lischer on the pole and Joe Carbone to his outside. Carbone took the lead early. Phil Hayne spun bringing out the caution. Ron Nurmi had his car hooked up and passed Carbone for the lead on lap 9. Todd Hoddick and Jeff Brown were racing side by side for second but Hoddick got around Brown on lap 22. Ron Nurmi won the race. Next week on Saturday, June 9th Lancaster Raceway Park, Wilbert’s Buick & GM Parts, and the FOAR SCORE Club present the 4th Annual “Heroes Homecoming” Night. The reunion of past drivers, officials and employees is from 12-5 PM with group photos scheduled at 3 PM including an invitation to all past champions. Also on the schedule is a 75 Lap SST Sportsman feature along with the TQ Midgets, Street Stocks, Super Stocks, and Late Models plus the Canadian Vintage Modified Series with the racing action starting at 6:30 PM.
