Cappelli, Weber, Shaw, Johnson, Jankowiak, and Holmes take the Checkers at LRP. It was another beautiful day in downtown Lancaster, NY as Lancaster Raceway Park was host to the annual Heroes Homecoming as well as a full night of racing. SST Sportsman had a 75 lap special and some outsiders showed up. The TQ Midgets had the first feature of the night. Arik McGruder started on the pole with Vinny Christiano Jr. to his outside. The caution flag flew early as Shaun Szejnar stopped on the backstretch on lap 1. Arik McGruder led the first 8 laps until hard charging Bobby Holmes caught him and passed him for the lead on lap 9. Holmes was by far the fastest car on the track as he ran every lap hard. Dave Wollaber moved his way up the field to pass McGruder for second. Holmes went on to win the race. The rest of the top 5 included Wollaber, McGruder, Schulz, and Bandelian. Steve Cochran started out front for the Street Stock feature. Gary Bartella passed Cochran on lap 4. Jim Bryant pulled off on lap 5 driving the Bob Hanel Sr. machine. A few laps later on lap 8, John Julicher Jr spun in turn 1 and everyone behind him scattered. Meanwhile, Andy Jankowiak found his way to the front as he passed Bartella. Tom Agen Sr moved up to second and tried to catch Jankowiak but came up short. Jankowiak went on to win his second feature in a row. Agen, Madill, Knutsen, and Gallagher rounded out the top 5. 8 cars started the Super Stock feature. George Roesch started out front with Dave Johnson on his outside. Johnson got around Roesch early and led the rest of the feature to win his second race of the year. Wayne Bernhard finished third after blowing a tranny in practice. Frank Batista had a solid second place finish. The traveling Canadian Vintage Modifieds had there feature next. For more information on this division, please visit http://www.vintagemods.com The Late Models ran next. Scott Skora started on the pole with Tommy Reese to his outside. The racing got exciting early as Skora, Weber and Reese ran in a tight pack for first. Skora remained the leader and Todd Hoddick moved up to second after passing many cars on the outside on lap 20. As Hoddick tried to pass Skora, both cars spun in turn 2 on lap 23. This put Bobby Weber in the lead with Nurmi and Pennell in the top 3. Weber went on to win the race, with Nurmi, Pennell, Brown and Hoddick rounding out the top 5. The 75 lap SST Sportsman Special was the final race of the night. 19 cars started the feature with Sherri Hogan on the pole and Russ Gian to her outside. On lap 2, MacLeod got loose and hit Kirk Rutherford who went in the outside turn 2 wall. Rudolph also spun but didn't hit anything. Ed Murray passed Hogan on lap 12, with Cappelli second. Billy Burd moved up to third. On lap 23, Cappelli got around Hogan. The caution flag flew on lap 29 as Dick Kluth spun with Andy Lewis in turn 2. Cappelli remained the leader and Billy Burd tried reeling him in, but came up short. Cappelli went on to win the race, with Burd, Rudolph, Daryl Lewis and Gian rounding out the top 5. Next Week Lancaster Raceway Park is host to a regular Saturday night show.
